Birthdays
If you have a child with food allergies, learning to navigate birthday parties can be tricky. You will likely find yourself preparing party food at home for your own child to take to other children's parties. Some parents and venues will be great at accommodating your child's dietary needs, while others might not have much knowledge and understanding of food allergies.
If you're feeling brave, speaking to other parents can even help to raise awareness about food allergies! It's worthwhile doing this when they start school as they may have the same friends for years. Over time the parents (and even the other children) can learn how to support your child. One way I open up this conversation is to offer to bring a plate of allergy-friendly rice crispie cakes to share, so that my little girl can at least have one thing the same as her friends.
